Photographing Plymouth
The Hoe faces south over the Sound, so the light is open and bright, with sea and sky filling much of the frame. Smeaton's Tower gives an easy focal point, and in the evening the western sky over Mount Edgcumbe and the Cornish shore colours the water.

Getting there and around
Plymouth station has direct trains from London Paddington, Bristol and Exeter, continuing into Cornwall. It is roughly a 15-minute walk from the station to the Hoe.
The A38 links the city with Exeter and the M5, and crosses the Tamar Bridge into Cornwall; a toll applies on the bridge, so check current charges. The Hoe, the Barbican and Royal William Yard are linked by the waterfront, though the Yard is a longer walk or a short taxi ride. The Cremyll ferry to Mount Edgcumbe leaves from near Royal William Yard.
